Not everyone wants to get a restoration and not everyone can afford to go through the process. Yet for those who do want to restore their Mopar, we’ve got a few ideas that will help. A restoration project can be either major or minor. It’s usually a good idea to decide how much you want to spend and what your overall goals of the project are.

One of the first steps in restoring your Mopar is documenting your vehicle. No two cars that came down the original assembly line are identical, so it’s a good idea to keep notes on the details that pertain to your specific car. For example, jot down information about the kinds of bolts, fender, hood and deck lid. Determine if there are factory inspection marks and look to see how much undercoating was used in the wheel wells and trunk. If you really want to get your car back to its original state, then keeping notes on this kind of information will be valuable.

After all of the necessary documentation has been completed, you can disassemble parts as needed. Many people take their cars in to a shop so that they can complete a full disassemble project. This is done to return the car to its original state. You’ll want to start body repairs and consider rebuilding parts. Then you’ll want to start thinking about cleaning and replating specific parts. Cleaning comes next.

Make sure that you don’t start steam cleaning or pressure washing your Mopar until you have documented it all with photographs. Try to video every detail if at all possible. Take notes about any parts you replace and be sure to consult with a professional if you have any questions or concerns.
